- the life and mood of the age during which it was written.
- Epic in a nutshell:

Conclusion:
- I found the translation
- …by Seamus Heaney breathtaking!
- Strong point: crystalline alliteration!
- line 209:
- “…the warrior boarded the boat as captain,
- a canny pilot along coast and currents.
- Strong point: Heaney taps into his vivid vocabulary
- …and his writing is designed to draw the reader
- …effortlessly from page to page through
- …this Medieval classic epic poem!
- I was not prepared for such an enjoyable read!
- But I must advise any reader to gather the
- basic story lines by reading a summary (wikipedia)
- before reading the poem.
- IMO..the story is simple and not the best
- part of the poem.
- It is Heaney’s choice of words ...his translation
- …that brings Beowulf life!
Last thoughts:
- If you are interested in studying Medieval Literature
- …Beowulf is a #MustRead
- If not…it STILL is a must read!.
- Tip: there is a great family tree illustration in this book!
- You can’t read this poem without it!
- In the film Annie Hall, Diane Keaton confesses to Woody Allen
- her interest in attending some college classes.
- Allen is supportive, and has this bit of advice:
- “Just don’t take any course where you have to read Beowulf.“
- I had to laugh when I read that!
- I don’t agree with Woody Allen…..
- #Classic for all to enjoy!
