#Kitchen 19 April 2023

by NancyElin

TWO WEEKS AGO

Update:

  1. Well I did give it a chance!
  2. Appliances included  in my “kitchen deal” were not the BEST quality
  3. …but my toolman convinced me to at least try them.
  4. Fridge and dishwasher are just fine…no complex technical appliances.
  5. But my old oven (Siemens) is a real gem and I did not want to trade it in for an other brand.
  6. So we installed it straightaway and I gave the other oven to the toolman.
  7. Perhaps he knows somebody who can use it.

  1. My microwave …we moved it out of the kitchen (took up too much cabinet space.
  2. It is a very handy appliance that I wanted to keep….but where?
  3. We moved it into a washing machine facility area…and it works perfectly!

  1. Now the induction cooking top…..that is a whole other ball game.
  2. Firstly, advice: if you go “induction” do not skimp on quality!
  3. I always say…”Go German”. Brands like Bosch and Siemens are top-of-the- line.
  4. The original induction included in “my kitchen deal” ….was defect! I was livid!
  5. I appears the kitchen showroom had installed this cooktop that DID NOT  work…
  6. ..and DID NOT tell me. They forgot to switch the cooktop with one that did work.
  7. Again…I was livid. This slowed the whole remodelling project for a week.
  8. I told the “sales person” he could keep his cooktop…never going to buy from him again.
  9. So, I jumped on the internet…ordered the PERFECT Bosch induction unit (..which I
  10. originally wanted anyway)..it arrived 24 hours later…and the toolman had it installed in 10 minutes.
  11. Still exhausted…any kitchen remodelling in 2 weeks was an illusion
  12. …lesson learned.
  13. There are always SNAFU’s along the way.

Defect unit: – ALWAYS take pictures to prove that the unit is correctly installed. (…I’m still livid!)

New Bosch induction unit:

It works!

My old dependable microwave…love it!

Time to finish some paint work…

Beauty…black granite  Reginox sink!

Did you know you have to “seal” the black granite sink regularly to protect it from stains etc?

Great, great progress!! You must be relieved to be so near the finish line with the stove top you originally wanted!! And that sink!!… a real kitchen sink!! I don’t know how you ever survived all this time with your old one! So happy for you!

I’m not going to remodel the kitchen ever again…so I might as well do it exactly as I want it now! With such a beautiful and well equipped cooking space…the joy of cooking is bubbling inside me! Today I’m making creamy potato and leek soup. Later making a Cauliflower Gratin with cheese and breadcrumb topping. I can make 1 per servings ready in caste iron oven dishes then in the fridge or freezer depending how much I make…and sprinkle the topping over it just before placing it in the oven. I got a “surprise” gift for my new kitchen from Bert the toolman,..but I’ll let you see that in a following update! PS Did you see….you have a “reply” about Grammy Rose’s Easter Ricotta Pie (…from Jinjer)?

Jinjer, this is my 8th kitchen…and in all the years in different houses, apartments not one of those kitchens did I like!
I finally decided it is now or never..time to create my dream kitchen. Planning on staying in this house for many more years and the investment is worth it…makes me super happy and increases the house’s worth. What buyer could say no to “induction cooktop”?

This all looks great. You had problems along the way but it still seems like it went really well in the end, and took less time time than I would have expected. And you managed all the problems along the way really well.

Tracy, now the next problem is getting back to my normal life….reading books. There has been so much going on since 29 March and I haven’t opened a book! Once the new kitchen feels like just a room in the house…then I’ll get back on track. Now I am still amazed that so much has changed in such a short period of time!
