Delighted to see two Australian titles in your top five. Bulldozed has just won the Australian Political Book of the Year :-)
Also pleased to note that I have the de beauvoir on my TBR…
Australia has some GREAT NON-FICTION WRITERS!!
Bulldozed was my choice for the prize…so that is in the pocket.
De Beauvoir is so good…book to read on a lazy afternoon with plenty of tea , chocolate and cookies.
This is a great selection of all types of categories. I love reading books from all over the spectrum of nonfiction.
Heather, thanks for stopping by on my blog…and also many thanks for hosting! I just looked at your blog and entered a long comment. I love cookbooks and you reminded me that I should again review a few in 2024. I reviewed 4 AUSTRALIAN cookbooks (see November 2021 on the link “monthly planning) for a reading challenge. I’m trying to think of other sort of NF books to read next year…different genres…and hope to find some good books/ideas on the NF list linked for week 1 #NonFicNov.
I see that I already added a bunch of these to my TBR after reading your reviews!!!
Making a list of new NF as I browse the “Year of NF” lists.
I should dedicate a month to reading only my “new to NF TBR” so the books
get read instead of on a …list that disappears during the 2024 challenges start-ups! I still have a few NF from list 2022!
That is a brilliant idea! Dedicate a month to reading what is new to the new to NF TBR!!!! I like it.
I hope to do this in January so I can give some feedback to the people that suggested the books…before the #NonFicNov vibe disappears.
You have a wide variety of nonfiction titles. What did you think about the book about the End of Fox News? One can only hope!
Anne, we don’t have Fox News in The Netherlands but the toxic fumes are felt throught the world. It was a lot of stories behind the scenes, back-stabbing, unsafe worke enviornment and some major power struggles (Murdoch/Ailes). Quick read to quench one’s thirst for gossip!
I’ve been curious about that Mike Nichols biography. I’m glad to see you really liked it.
Reese, thanks for you commnet…yes, the Mike Nicholas bio is excellent.
His youth (first few chapters) is easy to get through but his life really gets interesting when he comes together with Elaine May. The rest is “theatre” history! I hope to high-light more bio’s during #NonFicNov.
I’m interested in Bulldozed… but part of me can’t commit anymore brain space to Scott Morrison than I absolutely have to! :-D
Good news, Kate…only the first half od the book contains a lot about Morrison. As soon as the election campaign starts…it is all about Albanese!
You read so widely that I always look forward to seeing what your favorite nonfiction reads are. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Deb Nance….making my reading list ready for 2024 by visiting everyone’s #NonFicNov lists. I selected your suggestions, Orwell’s and Trevor Noah’s book. So, 50% of my NF books are the books that others share with me.
That’s a really impressive selection of non fiction reads. Why We Sleep is on my TBR and A Year on the North Sea Coast sounds interesting too.
Loved the book about sleep…learned the cycles we go through during the night. Just fascinating! North Sea Coast…has its moments but some chapters are better than others. I read an amazing book about walking: Author: Levison Wood
Title: Walking the Nile
Published: 2015 – 17 chapters, 320 pages…just amazing and I learned so much. See it on Amazon or pehaps you library has it.
Ooh that does sound good and the Nile would be a completely new part of the world. Thanks for the recommendation
I’ve just ordered Walking the Nile from the Library 😃
Why We Sleep helped me so much too! The screens don’t seem to impact me as much but I need a very cold and extremely dark room – some of his other tips that worked for me.
Enjoy your Nonfiction November!
Same here…I tried to turn off screens (laptop, Ipad) around 6 PM but it made no difference. I read so much on IPAD and missed it. But Dark room and going to sleep at a the same time each night helped too.
Sometimes I think the electric glow of my kindle actually puts me to sleep. Hah!
The best way to fall asleep is an audio book…set the timer for 30 miinutes and float off to dreamland!
