#AusReadMonth25 Wrap up

Tawny Frogmouth
- To close my #AusReadingMonth25…
- ….would not be complete without the bird of the year:
- Tawny Frogmouth!
- Isn’t he adorable?
- While often confused for an owl… the tawny frogmouth is actually part of the nightjar family.
- The tawny frogmouth is active at night…
- …by day it perches in trees perfectly camouflaged.
- They are native to Australia and also found on Tasmania.
- The beak is abnormally wide like the mouth of a frog.
- They are short and stout birds measuring 8.5 to 21 inches tall and can weigh up to 15 pounds!
- Tawny frogmouths are not the most “talkative” of birds.
- They will hiss if they feel threatened.
- At night, they hunt for food using the sit-and-wait technique.
- What do they eat?
- Tawny frogmouth’s diet consists of mice, pinkies, crickets,
- …giant mealworms, and wax worms.
- They mate for life!
Conclusion:
- I’ve read 6 books on the Walkley Award long list.
- I read 4 books on the Australian Political Book of the Year long list.
- The winner?
- I hope Mean Streak by Rick Morton wins BOTH prizes!
- Why?
- Excellent writing by an investigative journalist who is able
- to combine non-fiction facts with a deep sense of empathy for the victims involved.

Hi Nancy from Canada,
You have sent me searching for such wonderful books, I thought I might return the favour.
I just finished Mike Meyer’s book Canada. It is a short but heartfelt love letter to Canada.
It made me feel cozy and happy to live here.
Hope you are doing well. Greye and I will both working and enjoying ourselves.
Cheers! Mary Lee
Thanks so much for the reading suggestion, Mary Lee! I will look at Meyer’s book. Yes, reading German Lit for the month of November (…then I’ll post my reviews) Just spent the morning with Hermann Hesse. Looking back at my high school days…we never read any German authors. It is time to catch up!
There is a glitch!
I’m informing some bloggers that periodically visit my blog:
Just a note: I’m putting ALL my past/present/future blogposts…on status “private”. Something is going on with my blog. No way I get 175 views in one day (01 Nov). I’m afraid my reviews have been caught up in some sort pf “AI” sweeper win USA searching for content to be used in AI engines! So, you have been warned…and you can follow my reading for the coming time on Goodreads…do check my books there. I’m also adding my reviews to my twitter account (Nancy @NB058137145) and German Lit Review posts with hashtag #GermanLitMonth. Sorry, I’ll try to solve this problem ASAP!
I missed the bird of the year announcement, so thanks for alerting me to it. Happy to see the Tawny win even though I voted for the Red Wattle Bird which we see in our grevilleas every single day.
Perhaps the Red Wattle will win next year! Your bird awards were a big hit on our news…the “feel good” segment!
That makes me feel good :-)
